The population of Chile is 16,970,265 and Santiago the capital has a population of 4,837,295. It is a very modern city although there are areas of poverty. Sometimes in newly capitalist societies they seem very modern but there are pockets of have nots. I had a look into the Augusto Pinochet years. All through central and South America you are aware of the stories of dictators and great suffering by the people.
